honestly do u want noticeable bass or a different source of lows other than ur mids?
i would go 12 for noticeable

10 for different source / noticeable (really depends on the woofer)

8 to me isnt enough cone area for noticeable air movement

Yes, I've noticed the general consensus seem to be that an 8" is enough, but that's not me. I am always thinking on what might be further down the road. In time I might want to get louder, so I figure, I'll plan ahead and will get me at least a 12", maybe a 15", but it will be sealed, ported is not on the agenda for my very first project.

I'd say either go with a 10 or a 12, and not more than that. That should get plenty loud for you. Especially if you get a decent one.

Yes, I wouldn't be surprised on that

And I am considering a 12" as my primary goal, for now anyway.

i wasn't joking about 8's. they're are numerous 8 inch subs, that will hit just as low as any 12. there are even 6.5 inch subs that don't sound too bad either.
