Hey,

I got a bass test CD and played it on my home computer speaker system with a 6.5" 80 watt subwoofer just for the hell of it to see what would happen because I don't have my system in my car yet and wanted to see what it would sound like on my computer speakers.

Now, what would happen, it had lots of mid range bass but most of the time it just sounded like a honk from a car horn or an electric razor going for a few seconds and then stop and then start again and it wasn't very loud either. Is this what people mean when they talk about distortion? I assume it isn't supposed to sound like this and the reason it does is that my speakers on my computer can't handle the low notes so it comes out sounding like an electric appliance going rather than a nice tight bass hit. Is this what is going on? With a proper subwoofer capable of hitting low installed properly in a car it won't sound like this right? Any further info would be appreciated. Thanks.

I guess that's what I get for trying to play that on a cheap set of computer speakers eh? lol

The thing is, the subwoofer still works with regular music, like it hits in the 60-100 hertz range fine. It's only at really low like 50 and lower that it starts doing that.

ok, i had a low powered pos computer sub like 3 years ago and I had the bass boost on it all the way up all the time, and I play a song with lots of low bass real loud one time, and it sounded like a torn piece of paper (which probably happend to the poor thing) and it never worked right again //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

kids right, i tryed doin that one time to but i actually blew my sub and it didnt work at all. You can adjust some of the feq. on on comp if it is a decant sub or if you have a good sound card. Just dont turn things up to loud when your playin around and nothin normally gets wrecked.
