Two weeks ago I had a buddy come by to drop off a couple subs to be rebuilt. I did a batch of custom 8’s and he saw the 4 I had left I built for my own car. He was checking them out and wanted them but told him they are for my car. He starts going on about how I should go for an spl setup to show what really can be done and just sell him the 8’s. Well, the slick mofo got me 😂. I sold the 8’s to him which he is putting in one of his cars and now I’m stuck doing a wall build in one of my cars. Here is the list of what I’ll be doing:

Car: 2013 civic si

HU: not sure yet but probably something that is double din in the 250-$300 range.

Electrical: 300 amp alt with AGM’s. 2/0 charging cables and will run 2/0 ofc to the back.

Speakers: crossfire XT-pro6’s, will do custom door panels to run two per side. Will do the Xs-st1 tweeters but not sure if I’ll do one or two per side. I glassed up the doors and got them solid to do the baffles but have to lay that part out which I’ll do on Monday. Gotta do the passive Xovers on abs with acrylic covers that will mount to the doors.

Amps: cab-m4 and cab-45 or taramps smart 5k and DS800x4. Still going back and forth between these choices but I’ll decide soon.

Subs: These I will build geared towards spl. I’ve done these in 12’s recently and they are insane in ported setups. I’m going to build 2 15’s for this car. It will be a triple stacked Y35 motor, 8 layer aluminum flat wire precision econo wind coil with aramid sheet collars made to my specs with the high temp black coating. These will have a solid 33mm of xmax and will easily take 2500w rms each. Ill do dual stitched tall roll surrounds with pressed Kraft Kevlar strand cones with glassed backs. 12 spoke frames with motor to frame spacers and nomex spiders. I got some high gloss dragon plate carbon fiber coming so I can machine cone covers for them so they will be flat. This carbon fiber looks absolutely incredible! Best stuff I have ever seen! 8 ga direct leads and will most likely machine some spider retaining rings.

For the box I really wanted to pay someone to do it but it’s looking like I gotta go old school and do it myself lol. The back seats are gone and it will be a wall build. Subs will be in 4 cubes each and tuned at 32 hz with 150 ish sq in of port.

The goal is to finish this build no later than June which I’m sure it will be done much sooner! I’ve already started on the door panels. The wood backing is all done, they have been glassed where needed to make it all solid, and body filler was used to get the exact shape needed. This doesn’t have to be perfectly smooth as it will be covered in black felt. No need to get this to a paint ready finish lol. Will make the baffles and lay them out and once I got them where I want them, the real fun begins 😈 stay tuned!

Crossover housings are done. Not sure if I will mount them to the door or in the trunk yet. Gotta see how I lay out the baffles on the door first and then I’ll decide.

Just barely was able to fit two tweeters per side lol. Baffle rings are currently clamped drying before they go on the door. The dual 6.5” baffles are done and fixed to the door. Once the tweeter baffles are dry, I will attach those and then layout the fleece to glass them! I can’t believe I use to do this for a living many years ago. This ish is a lot of work lol

Lol, exactly! That’s why now I just do installs for myself. I’ll help someone bit that’s about it.

All I do for others is subs and that’s it and even that I tend to limit it. Did the test fit, had to go with one tweeter. It was way too tight to take the chance. 136w rms to super tweeters with a sensitivity of 106 db I think I’ll be fine 😂🤣. All the fleece is down I gotta eat dinner and then I’m glassing!

Love those crossover boxes. Simple and clean looking. That’s a lot of tweeter. Lol. You could get every dog howling for 3 miles probably. I grew up using fiberglass and bondo helping my father in his auto body shop when I was a kid but I’ve never used it for car audio. I still like the smell of bondo. I should bite the bullet and do some pods. I’ve always done it the lazy way and stuffed my doors with 200$ worth of sound deadener and just slapped a speaker in. My tweeter pods are plumbing from Home Depot. I think I spent 10$.

Well I pulled back on the tweeter and went with one in each door 😂. There is nothing like having mids sealed imo. Gives the sound much more depth. What’s nice about this is you can do pretty much what you want. Wanna run 8’s, multiple 6.5’s, whatever, you can make it happen. Now that I’m down to one tweeter I’ll be short a passive xover so I made those cross over holders a wee bit larger than needed lol. I ain’t cutting them down I’ll figure it out lol. First coat of resin is on, gotta wait an hour and then I’ll do chop mat or possibly cloth if I can make it work. These are getting done tonight I don’t care lol. I wanna bondo them tomorrow, sand them, and cover it all with felt. This way these are done!

This ish is a lot of work lol
Yeah. I was going to say that we bought some Q-form kicks for my brother's civic and just used the kicks and stock locations for fronts in his and they do quite well. The 200$ or whatever for the Q-forms is worth every penny unless you just love getting sticky and itching.

Pair of 15s or 3 12s works good in Civic/Integra body style flat wall. The 4 I've seen use top center ports and they generally gain big if you meter "outlaw" at the kick.

I thought about doing the q logic kicks but I’m paranoid it won’t be loud enough to keep up. Do I said why not let’s make the custom door panels. I did a nice amount of chop mat last night and after I had a ton left over. Put it is a sealed bag and tossed it, I hate using that stuff! I checked this morning and they strong! Im gonna do another coat of resin today and on the big areas just lay a piece of fiberglass cloth. This should be more than enough then once it dries I’ll sand it down then fill it. Hopefully I can fully finish them today!

Door panels are done! Gotta clean them up but that is all that is left. Next I will do the crossovers this coming weekend, I need a break lol

Started wiring up the crossovers. Couldn’t finish but at least it is started 😂. I’ll have them done before the weekend is over. Yes, that is 10ga wire that I use for direct leads when building 8’s and I know it’s overkill but I like the way it looks 😂. On the back side I have quick disconnect plugs I’ll show when it’s all done along with more pics!

The doors are finished! Just have to clean and vacuum them and that’s it! Put quick connects on so the wires I run into the doors i can’t put them on that side this way it’s plug and play. Next up is planning out the box and building the subs, stay tuned 😈

I retired as an installer many moons ago 😂. All I’ll do for others is build subs, that’s it 😂.

Everyone has a price man, lol. I need some anarchy mids crammed in the doors of my Jetta and that's some damn fine work ya did there.

I just got my 3-way front stage installed with temporary pods for the first time. I officially have 66 percent of a stereo installed again! Well, more like 50 percent, wires are ******* everywhere...
