Hi guys, after drooling over this sub for a while (I always had a thing for JL) I finally replaced my alpine 12in type R with one of the JL 12w3v2's. I heard this sub is known for it great mix of SQ and spl and I have personally heard a few and I had to agree. I decided my type R didn't give me enough bass so hence the switch.

however, after todays install, I am quite disappointed. the sub is VERY LOUD (spl is GREAT!) but that's all I hear. NO SQ whatsoever!!!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

My hunch is the box. It is an OLD subzone box from 4 yrs ago which I was never too happy with. You guys think the box is the culprit? If so, I am ready to invest $$$$$ for a new quality box.

If not the box, what else could it be?

anyone had this problem also?

I would assume so, if its particle board or something else cheap like that a high powered woofer could loose alot of its SQ because of the box flexing. I make all my boxes out of 3/4" MDF and/or fiberglass. I started making my own boxes after I looked at the materials my old prefab box was made from. (3/8" Particle Board)

the box is made from 3/4 mdf. at least i think it is =) but i know its 3/4 in.

anyone know of a good custom box builder?

btw, did u personally get something done from gnomeaudio or did you just hear about him? I like to hear personal experiences (positives I hope)
