Speakers outside the car? Good/ Bad? Ideas?

We have done numerous installs with 6.5 or 8inch marine speakers mounted behind the bumpers pointing down for tailgating.

Personally I don't like it but It can sound fairly decent.

One of the big reasons they passed the law in FL ticketing for audio heard 25' away. Those squatted truck kiss their dad on the lips boys loved putting speakers outside their shit boxes.

It was bad around here for a while with guys putting outdoor megaphone style marine horns under the cars because they were cheap. But damn did the sound bad. I hated installing that crap. Always the lowest tier customers coming in with that junk. Glad I'm not working at a shop anymore.

That was a fad here in South Texas. Guys using those icecream truck horns outside the cars. To me, that is what today's car pro audio sounds like.

Mostly in the northeast it's the Brazilians and I don't know if they actually steal the horns from ice cream trucks but they might as well how bad that **** sounds.

We have lost a few venues that used to host shows over this **** and one of the shops had been doing his show for like 30 years. If you need PA sound for some outdoor application just buy some proper PA cabinets and stands like they use at outdoor concerts.

It's sad when people whom host non city public events lose heart because of thieves. You lose a bit of community when they shut down. As to why they would use PA horns instead of cabinets probably boils down to cost of set-up, storage, and maintenance. Those you just set them and forget them.
