Which company makes the best head units as far as sound quality is concerned among the following choices:

Alpine

Nakamichi

Pioneer/Pioneer Premier

Eclipse

Clarion

Also, in everyone's opinion, is the best sound quality head unit that can be had for under a grand?

all excellent HU's, but in my opinion I would rate them in this order: Alpine, Nak, Pioneer, Clarion (never heard an Eclipse deck before).
