Hey,

I've got a 15" rocksford fosgate sub, in a sealed box, 400 peak, 150 RMS(i have a small car.)

I'm trying to find an amp for a decent price but trying to get a mono channel amp, or bridgable 2 channel, has been harder than i thought.

I found a couple that will pump out 160 x1 bridged for like $350 or so :thumbsdow

.

but than i found a sony1200 amp that says it gets out 200 x2. but it seems a little to inexpensive for what it is(it sells for 250). i know sony is crap, but i only need like 150 so i figure it's good for me, and if it's 2 channels at 200, i can get another 15"

Do anybody have any input, should i go for it, or am i better off shelling out some cash for good quality. or maybe bridge the 2 channels and get good quality and save cash instead of getting a really expencive mono amp.

First off who ever told you that Sony is crap is full of crap themselves. Granted they don't make the hardcore spl stuff that most like is not reason to call there product crap and I do not agree with the way Sony plasters unrealistic numbers on their equipment. But if someone takes the 5seconds required to simply look past the hyped up numbers and look at the true numbers you can see what those amps will do.As for your needs, I'm not sure which model you are looking at but let's assume that these are rms ratings. I'm not sure what impedence your sub is but lets say it's a single 4ohm. That amp may do roughly 500-600wrms into a single 4ohm load which would be too much for your single sub. I don't know if your amp will handle a 2ohm mono load so until you know for sure DON'T DO IT. In keeping with what you have simply buy an identical sub and wire them into a SERIES 8ohm mono load at the amp or into two 4ohm stereo loads.

Now if the figures you've stated are peak or max rating then stay with the single sub you have and brigde your amp mono to the single sub :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

Seems to be a bit pricy for so few watts.... but i would get a jbl300.1 for around 170 or less on ebay and buy another 15.
