The idea of the rich (as a group) hardly paying taxes is a myth.

The most prominent anecdote used at the moment to push the "rich don't pay enough mantra" is Buffet's claim that he paid a lower effective rate than his employee. The federal income tax code for the year he claimed this happened didn't contain tax rates high enough for anyone with the income he claimed she made to pay the rate he claimed. Including FICA in the mix still didn't get to the rate he claimed she paid, and that's assuming she had an idiot do her taxes.

As a group, the rich pay a larger portion of their income than the rest of us.

The very idea that people should be treated differently under the (tax) law seems to run counter to the "values" liberals claim to hold dear.

When OWS people call for making rich people pay higher tax rates that the rest of us, they are pushing for discrimination against a minority group.

It could just be the coverage, but class bigotry seems rampant in the movement.
