Some rods are supposed to have a little moisture! I've seen oldtimers dip rods in a bucket of water. You don't want to do that with low hydrogen rods though such as 7018.
Who ever said they use argon as a shielding gas for mig is wasting their money!

Those weld look decent for a newb. Do you know any specs on the rod or machine used?

im pretty sure mig is an arc weld.

mig is wire fed.

arc is the sticks you were using.

welders make bank, no doubt. my cousin is a pro, travels the country doing various jobs. he has even done work on nuclear power plants. a sweet trade to get into.
