Smart CALC. People (Question)

He is making this shit up. Last week he told me that the Earth is tilted.
HAHA funny. But I found out a problem. My friend told me the problem over the phone and I wrote it down wrong:crap: This is actually it.

Find the Integral from 0-->2 and the equation is (E^X) + 1 / E^X

Would anyone mind answering/explaining that....Sorry

We got the answer on a calculator, but weren't sure if it was correct. Plus he needs to learn it, and to be able to do problems like these without a calculator. Certain problems he can use one, but not for this one he said.

I was always a stats guy in school, never a big calc guy so I have an 83+, and I love it:yumyum:

Ya know...I completed Calc I and II and started calc III until I switched to business and this shit is still like looking at a foreign language. I have no idea how to do it...

HAHA...that is funny. When I took it I remember it not being very hard, but now that it has been a long time, I don't know anything anymore. It is really sad how much of it you forget. But yeah, always being a business major in college, I just had to pass an entry level business calculus class, and that was it.

Once you get knee deep in it, its actually much easier than it looks right now on your screen...

 
how did you reduce it to e?
I can explain it in words, I think. Pretend he didnt' use e. Like 8^8/8^7. Raising to a power is just repeated multiplication. All of the bottom will cancel out you'll end up with 1 higher power on the top, since the top is (x+1), it's always 1 power higher, with the bottom becoming 1. so (8^1)/1=8. Works with any real number.

 
the problem can be converted to...

((e^x) +1) * e^(-x)

that equals

e^(-x) + 1

the integral of that equals

x - e^(-x)

evaluating that from 0 -> 2 gives you

2.864664717

Yes, that is correct.
So since it is X-e^(-X) what do you get after you plug 0--->2 in?
1. plug in x=2 for all x

2. plug in x=0 for all x

subtract #1 from #2
