small ported box

Is a ported box with fewer cubes then the recommended for a sub a bad idea? Assuming that they are tuned the same.

For example: a 15" XXX in a 3 cube box @ 30 hz vs. the recommended 4 cubes also tuned to 30 hz.

Reason I ask is lack of trunk space.

you would probably have to tune differently if you made it a full cubic foot smaller. Im not sure how it would effect the sound.

You could probably polyfil the box if you somehow strapped down the polyfil

You will need a longer port to get the smaller box tuned lower and the extra port length may all but cancel out the smaller box. The outside dimensions might end up being close to the same once port displacement is factored in.
