Hi i have a newer model eclipse head unit that someone had in the car when i bought it. the rear speakers werent working so i pulled out the head unit and wow it was a ghetto install. The ground was connected to a spliced green and orange wire, and the speaker wires are all spliced, and there are more sets of speaker wires spliced in to the line out puts from the built in hiu amp. Well i took it out and disconnected the wire harnesses to try and fix the mess (no wires were covered at all, they were all bare) and hooked it back up and the hu wont turn on. Every thing is hooked up correctly, and i checked the fuses, and i still have no luuck. Could the head unit be trashed? HElp please!!!

I have come across far too many installs like this. If people would just spend the 7 bucks and get a wiring harness adaptor instead of cutting and splicing- everything would work out much better.

Now on to what your issue is--->

You say that there is no power now, and there was before.

Well, it is likely that the Unit is still ok- but it is just needing a power source. Take the head unit out and get a test light. put the test light on to the power wire to the head unit and see if there is voltage there. You will need to have your key in the ON or ACC position for this to work- as the radio electronics in a car are set up by the factory as a switched power supply. If there is voltage- be sure that both Constant and Memory wires are connected. If there is no voltage, obviously you have isolated the problem and a new posative wire will need to be located or ran. Also- be sure that the ground is strongly connected to a clean metal part of the chasis- 9 times out of 10 the ground is the cause of these problems.

Good Luck!

thanks zane, but 1 more question. What exactly is the memory wire and what color is it usually

The memory wire is used to store your pre-set options such as, Radio stations, Bass/Treble settings, etc. so that they are not lost when you turn off the power.

This is typically yellow in color and often times has an inline fuse.

take it easy,
