Scott Kalitta Fatal Crash

rip.......my question is , why would you put a concrete wall at the end of a 1/4 mile ??? especially when your car can do like 300 miles an hour?.>>> you would think that the end of the track would be open for the car to roll free off the track..........common sense would tell you that a concrete wall +300mph =death.........
I answer with this quote from wikipedia

The car continued down the track, went through the sand, over some dirt, through a fence, and hit the wall shooting the car into the air, breaking it into hundreds of pieces. An immediate fireball enveloped the car as part landed in the woods and part appears to land on the camera tower. Some of the trees in the woods were scorched by heated fragments

That sucked to see an a major loss to the racing community. There is a lot of talk about the shutdown area at Englishtown not being long enough for 300+ mph cars, and the emergency sandpit/safety net not being big enough as well. If I remember right there is a public roadway not too far from the end of the track, hence why there would be a concrete retaining wall there.

RIP, Scott Kalitta
