I was looking around one day and started think if this whole twisted this really makes a difference(RCAs, speaker wires)? And what's the deal with home audio/video RCAs that cost $80? Do they really make a difference? Is this chart pretty much correct? wire chart Is there a chart that determine's what gauges wire to use in reference to wattage?

thanks

well the whole idea of twisted wire is the idea that low bass notes tend to gether near the middle of the wire while higher notes tend to drift towards the outer part of the wire. And the lower bass note supposedly move slower than high notes. The whole idea behind twisted wire is if you have some of the strands going down the middle on a straight line and then twisted wire going around the outside the higher notes which will be sticking the outside of the wire will have to travel a longer path making them reach there destination at closer times.

Short answer: it will afect bass and treble timing.

Don't know if it is true or not but i am just telling you the reasoning some people use for selling 80 dollar RCA cables....

oh and BTW that chart is in amps which most people will not know how to transfer amps to watts so you may want to find a chart the show AWG power capacities in wattage to prevent confusion.

CockI - that chart is a reference for power wire. It has nothing to do with RCA's. Not sure if that's what you were getting at, but that's how your post read. The chart's dead on, but it makes a difference how you calculate your current draw. 100A per 1000w is a pretty good general rule.

WOW how about you read that whole thread dumbass.

niether of us are scientist who can tell wether or not this is true i was merely stating an unbiased explination of why companies make these wires. I personally dont believe it makes a difference.

Why you gotta take it so personally??? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

First of all - technically - I can be considered a scientist, but I guess given my current job, technologist would be more appropriate. Regardless, I'm certainly intelligent enough to know marketing hype/BS when I hear or read it.

2nd of all I did read it your whole post. The mere fact that you felt the sales/marketing voodoo theorizing was worth repeating was reason enough for me to throw up the red flag and do my part to make sure anyone who reads this thread understands that idea is garbage.

That is textbook BS fed to ignorant consumers by ignorant salespeople in a desperate attempt to get them to buy the $100 cables when the $10 ones will work every bit as well.

The point of twisted pair RCA cable is to reduce loop area noise. It has nothing at all to do with the skin effect which is an AC anomaly that is only an issue w/frequencies far beyond the audio spectrum.

The point of twisted pair speaker cable is to look pretty and make more money for the mfg.

Well first off i apoligise if i reacted to harshly. I am a sales man at radio shack so i do know how much it cost to make these wires and how much ******** they are but he was merely asking why they would make twisted wire and i gave him the reasoning behind it right or wrong i would rather let him figure out.

Second i am a second year eletronic engineering major so no sales man is goign to "brian wash" me....
