I've seen this done with significant (and I mean significant) decrease in need of gain to achieve desired results. Couple of questions for the gurus.... Is there an increased load on the sub? Is the amp more likely to have problems? Common sense will tell you that the amp will run cooler and take less battery, but the wattage has to come from somewhere. When it sounds to good to be true.... it usually is. Should I wire a JL 10w3d4 normally with 300 continuous watts or this RCA impersonator set at less gain? Thanks in advance!!! You probbably will fry your inputs on your amp doing that. And you can clip easier also, so i would say No Bueno.

You can accomplish the same thing by using a good quality hu with high voltage pre-outs, or use a line driver.

What exactly is a line drive? I just bought a Rockford Fosgate 351s. Which is the best way to get power to the sub? If good RCA jacks is the answer, which are good and which are the best? Will wal-mart RCAs do the job?

I've see the rear speaker wires (near the head unit) exposed (maybe an inch) but not cut. Then, one of RCA cables actually is cut exposing the two wires that are inside of it. These two internal RCA wires are wrapped to the Left and Right speaker wires. The other end of that RCA cable is plugged into the amp. The second RCA cable is NOT used at all! I had a borrowed Majestic pushing about 250watts hooked up and the gain was barely up and it was bumping! The guy who spliced it this way said that it also took power from the radio allowing less need for power from the amp. I just wondered what the experts on here thought. I've got a new Rockford Fosgate 351s amp coming and I don't plan on wiring it this way. Common sense is telling me not to push the envelope. My friend usually toys with $25-$40 speakers and used, pawn shop amps. I figured the guys on here would frown on it, but I wanted to know why. What kind of amp do you have?
