Question about crossovers

I've read that you can get capacitors to act as a passive crossover. I am buying a sub and would like to keep my speakers from playing the lower frequences (6.5 inch speakers all around). If I wanted around 80-85 Hz high pass crossover, would this work?

The website says 470 uf and 35V. Does the voltage matter? Basically, this just cuts off the frequency before it gets to the speaker and the head unit is still wasting power on those frequencies right?

Yes, a capacitor is a simple high pass filter. It's an OK solution for blocking bass on small speakers, but for your main speakers the rolloff is too gradual to be much use. You'll end up blocking the midbass too, which you definitely want to keep. I suggest finding a different solution.

35V is adequate up to a couple hundred watts at 4 ohms.
