Problems with my SX 15"

but is that just one single wire going around or is it 2 like i have it...if its 2 like mine should i twist the 2 wire point up in each hole?
if you're running a total of 2 sets(4 individual wires) to the amp then yes, you'll have to run the two +'s to one output, then the 2 -'s to the other

Seems like you have the wiring done correctly. You have a dual 4 ohm voice coil so just connect the + to the + and the - to the -. After that is done, connect a speaker wire from a set of voice coils, IE 1 + and 1 - and connect that to the speaker jack on your box.

Then just run the + to teh + on the amp, and the - to the - on the amp.

As for gain, definately turn it down. 1/4ish should be just fine. As for that setting on your headunit, I have a Pioneer DEX-P78 and on my bass control it ranges from -6 to + 6. If yours is something like that I personally never turn mine past 0.

I would honestly even try to set yours at 0 with the gains setup properly and then see how the sub sounds. You might be surprized. The sub should not be very loud at low volumes and it should increase with the mids/highs as you turn the volume up.

I have seen lots of systems where the gain is set too high and the woofers are really loud at low volumes, they get a bit louder as you turn the volume up, then they just stop getting much louder and basically start clipping etc. which makes for bad SQ.

I hope I've been able to help a bit anyways. That sub should be great once you get it setup properly.

Keep at it,

Good luck,

Craig G

That definatly fits my description, my sub gets loud but when i put the volume higher it doesnt get loud and just starts to sound nasty... also on my wireing will it be better if i twist the wires together or just put them both into the hole and tighten?

thanks you are such a big help

I have a Pioneer HU. And I used to have my "Sub Level" at +6. I was all into the bass booming. But it sounded VERY distorted past low volume. I don't think it's like a bass boost, it increases the sub's volume while keeping the mids/highs at whatever volume the HU says.

Like if everything is FLAT, and your HU is on 30 out of 45, then you turn your "sub level" to like +3 out of +6, then your sub is really at the volume it would be if everything was FLAT at around 38. Plus that setting could send your amp well into clipping.

Just remember, a 1000watt amp is just a 1000watt amp. No matter how many boosts and level settings you adjust, it's JUST a 1000watt amp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Turn everything FLAT (0), adjust you gain properly, and it should sound very nice. 4volts = 1/4 the way up, is not etched in stone, lol. An amp with an 8volt input sensitivity turned 1/4 the way up isn't probably as high as an amp with a 4volt input sensitivity turned 1/4 the way up.

Turn everything flat, turn your gain ALL THE WAY DOWN, turn your HU to the max volume before your in-car speakers distort, Pop your trunk, slowly turn your gain clockwise, and when you hear your sub start to sound distorted, turn your gain back just a hair, then your finished //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

1000 CLEAN watts, not distorted, roast your voice coils in a week watts.

Hope this helps,

Holla...

yeah, it won't be as loud, but you won't blow up your sub/amp by clipping the hell out of it. If you want it to get louder get more power, or a bigger box and a higher tuning.

if i were you, i'd put the deck on zero for the low. I run everything pretty much flat, and then try to work with the amps to get the settings on the subs that i like. Just because a 3 band eq is a little vague, and i can control all of that junk on my amps.

It seems that you want more output, but i've never really like messing with the settings on the deck unless it was a good eq.. and i've never had a deck w/ that great of an eq on it.
