pre-outs and wiring

i have a 4 channel clarion amp bridged to 2 channel that go to 2 dvc4ohm subs wired in parallel, I know this isn't right but with this amp i have the gain maxd and also bass boost. i recived a clarion 1000 w 2 channel amp today, i cdecided to roughly wire it in to see if it worked. since this amp has only one input r&l i took the rear channel rca's off my other amp for the incoming signals. i started the truck and started to turn up the gain and once agin i was at full maxc and the subs didn't distort, i thought with more than twice the power i would hardly go past half way on gain. My question is could it be the pre-outs on my deck?? without the sub pre-out was i only actually running one sub?? hard to see as they share a box. or is it the voltage on the pre-outs?? my amp says it has a .5-2.5v range??? most decks have 4 volt pre-outs right?? can anyone explain??
