power supply

You know, if you have too much extra money laying around I take donations. let me get this straight. Three BD1000.1 amps, and 2 500.2 amps. Well first off, what type of vehicle do you have? Have you upgraded your electrical system? With amps that size you would probobly disinigrate your alternator on your first sound check. OK, so I exaggerated a little, but seriously, you will need to upgrade your alternator, or in your case possibly even an additional high output alternator along with at least one additional high capacity battery. Aside from that, I'd say two 1/0 guage power wires, a couple of power distribution blocks, and 5 4 guage wires, and a bunch of grounds, and, and, and I hope you're gonna wear hearing protection in your car.

I do not have to much money laying around, I just saw a setup similar to this one, so I decided to put my own touch to it. I do not have any of the equipment yet, I was just doing a drawing of the system before I started purchasing anything. I have an 87 caprice, and I have not upgraded the electrical system. Would you reccomend any power caps, two high capacity batteries (one in the trunk and one under the hood). Lastly, how would I hook all this up. I'm a begginer, but I have seen (and aided) some systems being installed.THANKS! ggrier1@uic.edu

I would deffinately recommend the batteries, but along with the batteries you would need some serious alternator power to keep those batteries charged. I'm no pro in the huge SPL systems, and have mainly dealt with one or two amp systems, but I have read quite a bit of literature about this. For the caps, I would use at least 4 full farads with bus bars to connect them. again, you would need a bigger alternator for the caps to hold a good charge. If you have never installed stereo equipment before, a system of this complexity would be a big challenge. Once you have purchsed some equipment you can ask for advice through this forum, but I strongly recommend finding some literature that would explain installation. There's just too much involved to be able to do a good install job just by asking for advice through a forum. Besides that, there are many variables that you will encounter while installing. I encourage your ambition to do this on your own, just make sure that you read as much as you can about it to prepare yourself. Multiple amp systems of that size require so much power that I can't emphasize enough the need for the high output alternator(s) which amounts to big $$$. Feel free to ask any questions that you have. There are some SPL fanatics on this forum that have more experience than I do, so hopefuly they will offer their advice. Good luck.

well as for the installing part there is a book call car audio design cookbook....its like 20 or 30 dollars you can also probably get it at the local library if your interested...it kinda give you all the basic info for all the sterio stuff you could want....kinda a beginners guide
