i just accidently deleted at least 8-9 Gb of songs off of my comp. i went to 'control panel', 'add or remove programs' and deleted this divx software that i rarely used and now my songs are gone!!! i jut did it 10 mins ago...... how can i get them back!??!?!?!!?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif:crying:

I don't think if you delete the Divx software removal would have deleted your music. Have you looked in the download location? Are you POSITIVE they were deleted?

First make sure that you are choosing a system restore date that shows in the key as having been saved. If you choose a date with no information, it will not work.

Your data is not gone right now. DO NOT make system changes. Unless you ran a 0/1 or RNG over the sectors, the data is still there, just that the file system is being told that it can use that area.

There is harddrive undelete software out there. Just google it. I am running to a meeting and don't have time to get a name.

Search for a few of the files. Your software may have been giving you a shortcut to the files and not actually opening the folder. Deleting the software could have deleted the shortcut.

If you do all that, and it doesn't work, try to re-install the divx software. It may be that the files are no longer associated with anything and you are looking for an icon that is no longer there. Also do a search on *.divx (or whatever the extension is for divx).

I'll help more after my meeting.

you are such a swell and helpful guy pl8er
I do what I can....

Still no luck to the OP? Did you try my suggestions? What was the outcome? I'm pretty good at data recovery.

Let me know your computer skill level as well so that I can figure out which software is best for you. (i can get you a hard drive recovery tool).

i tried searching....... nothing. my hd is partitioned into 2 parts, a C drive and a D drive. all the regular stuff was stored on C drive. my music, movies, itunes was stored on D drive. when i deleted the divx file, the file only read it was 175mb, i had at least 12GB worth of songs and movies. i don't see how it did it. my music was saved under ' my computer' 'acerdata(d)' and stored in 'new folder'. divx had nothin to fukin do with it!!!!!!!!

anyway, my computer skill level is about 4-5/10

Options then view and show hiddne files and folders. Check your folders than, see if they are showing up. If you have Norton, check to see if it hasn't put them into a holding area for not knowing the extension type.

Have you tried reinstalling a divx program then checking for the files? This shouldn't be the issue as it should just show a generic icon as it does not know what to associate with.

I know its a lame question, but have you checked your recycling bin?

Good news is that this is a secondary drive. As it is not the primary, it just makes it that much easier to undelete files.

That may help you out. Pretty easy to follow along with too. That link is intended for you figure out the name of the program to look for, how you obtain it is your decision.

Hard drive mechanic would be another very good option.

should i do the 'Windows Hard Drive Recovery' ? if so, theres 3 to choose from afterwards..... which one should i pick?

buy a cheap 2.5" external and back up everything important once a week from now on

a 60gb costs like $40

just dont add files, move files or download on that drive until your restore it cause whatever you write to it may overwrite your music and once you fragment that area you are screwed
