PG 1200.1 vs DEI 1100d

Hi guys I need another powerful 1-ohm amp to power a single ED 12A. It used to run off a HiFonics bx1000d but it fried after about 3 months of barely-moderate use. HiFoncs offered to repair it for a price but I have a feeling it will just burn out again. I did a search on the DEI but not much came up on the quality.

I pretty much want a reliable amp that won't burn out. Prices seem to be about the same on ebay. Which would you choose?

the PG Tantrum is not stable at 1ohm, look into the Orion or Viper 1200

but the PG puts the power out at 2 and 4ohm... i think

yea get the pg cause it puts out the 1400 watts at 4 ohm also

The PG is stable @1ohm according to the amp sticky.

I also called their company and spoke with a tech guy, he confirmed this but added I should consider aiming a small fan at the heatsinks because it will get warm.

but if you are running 1ohm, cant you swap the wriing and run it at 4?

For a single sub that's dual voice coil it's my understanding they can only be wired 1-ohm.

if its a dual 2ohm sub it can be wired to 4 or 1 ohms

This basically says for 1 DVC sub I can either wire it in series (for 4-ohm), or parallel (for 1-ohm). I was using parallel before, which was probably too stressful for that cheap HiFonics amp. I guess I should go 4-ohm for reliablity's sake.

Man, seems like everyone is having problems with hifonics. Mine has been going good for over 6 months now and about 4 of that has been at 1 ohm.

well since you can wire it to 4 ohms, and the PG Tantrums are solid amps and are at very decent prices why not go that direction,

 

its not so much that the HiFonics is cheap, just that the PG is very nice for the money
