Hi Everyone,
I guess this will be more or less my welcome post and I'm coming in with a bit of bang, or buzz rather... literally.
I rack mounted a PDX-M6 and have had it there for a little over 3 years until yesterday when right after turning on my car it decided to drop ~40VDC to the sub melting it with no volume, input or amp shut off. I pulled the amp and tested it, still dumping 40-43VDC without RCA's attached. The recent Amazon reviews and one other thread on another forum confirm I'm not the only one to experience this so as PSA for anyone else who may have this potential fire hazard of an amp in their car, BE CAREFUL! Feel free to take a look at the attached pics to see what's left of my IDQ.
I've been a long time Alpine amp fan and until recently had great results with them, but after this I'm no longer interested in getting another one. I was initially looking at getting a JL Slash and W6 as JL always seemed to be the "top of the line" (back in the day) but the more I've been reading the more it seems like they make good equipment but they're also really overpriced.
I'm open to any idea's but as I would like to keep this a limited install as I'll be using a 10" .75cu/ft sealed stealthbox. Initially the build had the PDX and IDQ-10, which was a nice, tight SQ install but I'd like the next iteration to have more punch behind it. Leaning towards a SQL/SPL sub/amp to see what I might be able to get out of this box. IE: Max single 10" sealed build... impossible I know but I'm trying! LOL.
Here are my current considerations:
JL Slash 600 running a W6
or
Zapco ST-850XM running a Sundown SA-10
or maybe a ZAPCO Z-1KD II but unsure if its worth it to get that kind of an amp for a Sundown.
I know a pre-fab'd tiny sealed enclosure isn't ideal, with an 8" depth but what 10" sub/amp combo would you throw at it to try and get the most out of it? 600-1000W range.
I'd like to spend around $500 for both but can spend up to $1k for the right components that will pack as much punch as possible. Appreciate any advice or input!!
