Orion HCCA 15.2/4 subs...do I want them?

Hello all, this is my first post here. I am new to competition-grade car audio (the biggest and baddest I have had so far is a couple of Alpine Type R12s and a RF T10001BD amp). I am looking at new Orion HCCA 15.2/4 (depending on which amp(s) I go with) (2 subs for now) for my '62 Cadillac Coupe DeVille. I want it to be loud AND clean, and I want to power them with either 2 RF T20001BD amps or 1 T40001BD. Supposedly these can handle 2000rms and 4000max.

I know these are gonna be loud, but will they be clean? I have never heard them in person, only read of SPL results and watched a bunch of videos on YouTube.

I would like to be able to compete every once in a while, but I just can't fathom spending $2000 on one Critical Mass UL12, or similar subs.

My decision was 2 13W7s and either 2 RF T10001BD amps or 2 JL 1000/1s until this morning when I stumbled on the HCCAs on YouTube.

The most I want to spend on a pair of subs is around the $1300 mark. Then I have to get the right amps to match (and of course the enclosure //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif )

Any advice on either the HCCA 15" subs or the JL 13W7s would be great! I am definitely open to other suggestions too, as long as a pair of subs will cost around a maximum of $1300.

THANKS!

-Rick

Love the car btw. Just do a search in the subwoofer section. JLs are cool, but you can accomplish the same output for less money. The same goes for the HCCAs. Look into Sundown Audio, Stereo Integrity, and my personal fav, TREO. From your description of the sound you want, I would say look into SQL subs- they have a smooth sound and get pretty loud.

I've learned a lot here and I'm sure you will too. Good luck

you live by me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif I wanna see that ride. I can help with the system too

I haven't heard the New HCCAs but I had the old H2s and they got down pretty good.

Thankyou, thankyou!

One of my buddies suggested this forum for me to go learn about car audio, and I can already tell I'm going to learn a lot!

Aww yeah for sure!! We'll set something up! The Caddy is going into my parents' (HEATED!!) garage in a week or so for the winter so I can get it ready to go for next car show season.

i ran a hcca 15.2 on 3krms and it did get a lil smelly playing heavy bass songs all the way through but that is alot of power to put to one sub either way. the hcca get crazy low. you can find them for like $400 so why not go for it. i did 147.2 @ 39hz with it. the sub sounded great too. i would deff recomend the hcca.

i have an HCCA 10.2 in my RSX and I have an Orion 2500d on it, I assume the motor and power handling on the 10/12/15 are roughly the same, so yes mine gets kind of smelly at nearly max volume on my 2500d. I love the sub though and if I could find two more 10.2's i'd be in heaven //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

RE XXX is a good alternative to the HCCA

Nightshades from SSA audio also.

GO with 15" or 18" subs and you will be far louder than the smaller couterpart with the same amount of power - maybe 15" HCCA's

Fi BTL

how are they totally piss poor for spl... mine did decent spl and sounded great for a daily driver.
umm, its no secret they **** *** as spl drivers. When was the last time you saw a db drag or extreme vehicle with 20 hcca's ?

They're for daily beating, and looking pretty. But not what you'd call a stellar spl driver.

I was using my Orion for comps, now it's just for daily beating, Bass Race and Street beats at comps. I've seen a few people running the HCCA's at comps, but not in walls. Mine gets a bit smelly when played for a while, it's been doing it for over a year and still pounds like no other 12" sub I've heard.

How is that a good alternative? the XXX is more than twice the money and handles the less power, on burps anyway. I'd take a HCCA over the XXX's any day of the week.

Considering this guy is only looking to do comps once in awhile the HCCA's would be just fine in his ride. A good alternative might be something from Fi, like the BTL, but the HCCA's will work just fine for what he wants.
