Opinions needed: JL10W7s - XXX10s - Eclipse Titanium 10"

Small dilemma... those with experience preferred.

The vehicle is a 2002 Jetta. Space is limited, so bigger woofers is not an option. Juice coming from a Hifonics BX1500D. Customer decided on getting a P4S DS matched to whatever woofers I choose.

Quickly, I would see the XXXs being underpowered. The JL claims about 500rms, and the Eclipse is 750rms. Hes looking for deep, loud bass when called on, but not sloppy. Few of my friends are leaning towards the JLs. I personally loved my XXX, so I would recommend the XXX. But I have done a Titanium install with 15s that were very impressive.

I dont know which to go with. He is leaving it in my hands to help him decide. Yes, we listened to all 3 subs but he cant find a difference, and Id prefer to get some opinions before making the decision which he should go with.

personally, for this application and in this situation...i would go with the eclipse ti's. good subs, won't be disappointed...i demo-ed 12's once and they were great. peace

p.s.- if there was more power i'd choose the XXX's.

for me, if i had bx1500d i'd get 2 10w7's the ohm load will be at 1.5 so we can assume they'd at least be getting 650 watts...... now that's assuming that the bx1500d does 1500watts @1ohm and 1000 @ 2ohms....

on the other hand, you did say space is limited, so why not 2 10idmaxv3's or 12w6v2s

I would go with the Ti's also, and as he said if you had more power then the XXX.
we are talking about 10" aren't we?

How much more power you need 1500w at 1 ohm = just right for XXX

About 1000w at 2 ohm do good with Ti's

w7 not quite enough juice for the subs potential at 3 ohms.

my vote with a bx1500d; I would go with the 10XXX.

my choice, again with what avalilable power you have; 15XXX

12W6 would eat up too much space. IDmax could be an idea, but noone locally carries them.

The 10W7 will play wonderfully at 500wrms. It should be plenty of power. The XXX claims 1600rms. My XXX15 played **** good with 1kw from a 1000/1. If the Hifonics did truely kick out 1500w, that would put the subs at about 750w a piece. Imo, thats definately not enough.

Right now, we are leaning towards the Eclipse Ti's. Hes really considering a glass'd bottom, so we will be able to squeeze 12s. Originally, he was 100% set on a P4S DS, but may retract.

again, 2 10w7s off a hifoncis bx1500d will be fine man......

we can assume each sub will get 625 watts a piece ((1500+1000)/2)/2=625 per w7

that is what i'd do if it were up to me......

another option is 2 mtx9510s off a hifonics bx1500d

The 9510s may be an option. Local car audio shop carries MTX, along with JL.

Quick Q: If I build his box, will tuning at 40Hz sound like crap? My XXX was tuned to 33Hz and it dropped looooow.

Bill T.

i wouldn't tune as high as 40hz...i'd go 35hz at the most. peace
NG
werd. too much SQ would be lost by tuning to 40hz.

and i would go with the eclipses as well. screw JL and theyr wack impedances, and XXX will be underpowered by a long shot.

BTW - we are talking about buyin 1 sub or 2 subs?

if 1 sub, i say XXX hands down.
