hi guys im kinda puzzled by all this bassbox stuff but recently ive been interested in building my own box can anyone out there help in basic easy facts as im a girl and you prob realised how easy it is to confuse us youngsters cheers kim

if you already know how much airspace, the speaker needs, you are in good shape. Like Phat said, there are several different materials to use in building boxes.......mdf, particle board, most hard wood , fiberglass......all options, but the easiest to use and cheapest for beginners would be particle board. Start by measuring your trunk, hatch etc if the space the enclosure needs to squeeze through to get to it's final resting place is smaller than the final resting place account for that. Then use the formula Length x width x height / 1728 gives you your airspace......example if your box is 12 x 12 x 12, you divide 1728 by 1728 which gives you 1cu ft.

don't forget, when measuring air-space, be sure to measure INSIDE demensions, as well as account for the air-space that the woofer itself will take up. Most of this info can be found on the website of your speaker manufacturer...as for box material, I suggest MDF...you can find that at your local Home Base for about $40 a sheet, which will do a box for a pair of 10s or 12s no problem.

When constructing the box, ensure that all seams are airtight, sealed with wood glue, and then caulk. Head to your local shop and ask to see a box that is partially done, usually they will want to show-off thier skills.

Have fun...
