New law imposed: Driving while talking on cellphone

As often as I've almost been hit by some bimbo driving a monster SUV because she couldnt do without talking on the cellphone 24 hours per day, I think its about time.
No matter where you go, take a good look at the countless people wandering around with a phone glued to their ear and tell me they dont look like bigger addicts than cigarette smokers.
exactly! i was rear ended by one of those bimbo's lol. so i think the law is a good one

A) indash dvd's are already illegal to watch while driving.
B) Its been a law here in NY for a while now, deffiently a good idea, ive seen so many people just not paying attention, and I'll be honestly, ive done it myself.

Just be VERY careful. If its anything like it was here in NY, they went on a rampage the first few months giving out lots of tickets to "prove the point"

as far as I remember, $50 fine first time, $100 2nd, and $200 for everyone after that I believe
i do see why they would make them illegal to watch. i think it's pretty much country wide. new laws never stopped anything though. the only people they affect are people that are responsible with it. my example would be the war on drugs. it's simply a revenue move. the bimbo in the suv will still talk on her cell phone and be reckless, and you'll get the ticket for seeing what time it is.

Couldn't be any more true..

I get in trouble for doing 77 in a 75, but I have people speed by me, weaving through traffic, and never get caught..

Lawmakers earlier this week passed a legislation that would make it illegal to drive with aphone up to your ear. Speakerphones and headsets are OK.
Seems like you guys missed the point on this one. They don't issue tickets for being on the phone, they issue a ticket for having the phone up to your ear. If you have a speaker phone, bluetooth, or hands free set, you can still talk on the phone and drive. The cop who said there would be confusion about if the person was dialing or checking the time must have been confused himself. The law doesn't say you can dial a number or check the time, you just have to have your hands free while driving.

how long after a cell phone law will they make a restriction on stereos? maybe ban all in dash dvd and navigation, even for responsible people that don't abuse that freedom.
Stereos doesn't cause you to focus/concentrate on it and lose focus as much as talking on the cell phone to somebody. In-Dash DVD player if you are watching it yea, but that's already illegal.

Regardless of how you talk to others not in the vehicle, youre being distracted. Sure you have your other hand free, but youre still talking to someone whos not in the vehicle with you. They cant remind you that the light turned red, that this guy is pulling out like an asshat in front of you, that someone just slammed on their brakes.

you're missing my point. all of our problems can't be fixed by making a law for every little thing. that's the cost of living in a free society. there is already traffic laws to take care of this. i'm not saying it's a bad law, i just don't like the government regulating every little thing. that is what leads to a free country turning in to a socialist one.

I see your point about it being another law, but really this is a good one being there are so many accidencts caused by talking on a cell phone. Hell my fiance was just involved in a car accident while she was on the phone with me. Thing was the lady that hit her from behind was talking on a cell phone as well and not paying attention. I actually heard the screatching of the tires.(Also my fiance has hands free) My point is that you shouldnt be talking on the phone while driving unless you have a hands free set or bluetooth or whatever is the latest technology. I think that it will force people to get the hands free or not to pick up the phone while driving and this law for one I am glad it was passed. Hell even sometimes I drive while talking on a cell, but is either for .01 seconds to see if it is an emergency or to see what number is calling on caller id.
