I never said that everyone that buys JL does so just for image. Read my post again. I did say that a lot of people do. I could car less what somebody looking at my system thinks about the equipment that I have. I've been running JL stuff for 12+ years now. Back when I got my first JL sub, people would ask what kind of subs I was running and when I told them they gave that nod that you get when you know they have no clue but don't want to look like an idiot. At that time Kicker a Rockford were making the good well known stuff.
Some people that buy JL get it because it is the right sub for their application. The majority though buy JL because either 1) they see it in all the magazines in the over the top installs and assume that it must be the best 2) they see them in some car that Funkmaster Flex hooked up 3) the salesman told them that they were the best or 4) they had money to burn and figured they would get the most expensive sub readily available cause that would let everyone know that they have money and it's expensive so it must be the "best".
Most of the above people are into the status of having a W7 in their car. They want what everyone else thinks is the best and are unable to decide for themselves what is best for them. Most of these people are the same ones that want to be heard coming blocks away and are sorely disappointed that the "best" subs aren't louder than everything else out there. These people don't understand that JL subs are meant first and foremost to sound good and provide accurate subbass. These people wouldn't know accurate subbass if it hit them in the head. They associate the "BEST" with the loudest, and that simply isn't the case.
