Need sub for good S.Q.

What is the best sub for S.Q. I don't listen to much rap or R&B so a lot of boom isn't wanted. I'm looking for tight strong bass. Also, how much power should be used to run it. (As much as the RMS or under?)

Depends on how much $$ you have to spend. A few subs come to mind that are pretty affordable: Alpine, Infinity, JL Audio.

RMS is the only number you need to worry about. It really doesn't matter whether your amp is capable of pushing more or less than the sub is rated for. What matters is how the gains are set, and how you use your volume control. A good class AB amp will help out your SQ a little. If you don't want a lot of boom, I would suggest getting 10's, you could maybe even get away with one.

I would suggest two Image Dynamic 10's, or Alumapro Alchemy 10's. The 10's will provide a better response to notes than the 12's.

Since I posted a few affordable subs, I might as well add onto what Mark_ab said, and go all out and recommend the Eclipse Ti's.
