Need Help to prevent blowing speakers

I recently upgraded my front speakers and 4 channel amp to my car. I now have MB Quarts pce 216 powered by PPI pcx-480 running to the quarts and also to the rear boston acoustics NX -97. The amp is pushing about 80x4 set on 4ohms. Here in-lies the question, everytime I try to turn up the volume loud and really get the bang for the buck out of the speakers I seem to get that feeling that my speakers are going to blow. :thumbsdow I can only get about half way up on the volume before i have to turn it down. Does this mean i have to adjust the gains on the amp up or down? and if so, what does that accomplish as far as being able to turn up the volume? PLEASE HELP I want to be able to get atleast 3/4 of the way up on the volume.

if there are no sounds of distress - popping, distorting, tweeter cracking, bottoming, or smell - turn it up....

If there are turn it down, and check the amp's setting. A crossover could have been turned off or some such thing...
