alright guys i think my brother (the real 78nova) has turned into an idiot or am i the idiot. He says that when you turn up the gains on an amp that you get more rms, like if your amp is rated at 1500 @ 1 ohm, that if you have the gains at halfway you will be only giving the sub 750 watts, that you have to turn the gain all the way up to get the real 1500 watts, i tell him you always have the same rms if you wired it to that ohm. so is he the idiot or am i a dumass?

come on guys keep the posts coming I need to show my brother how much of a dumass he is, by the way hes about 4 years older than me and he has all kinds of subs and caraudio stuff and he still didn't know that about the gain.

You need to create your own username because this will get confusing.

I think it great that someone is going to get skooled by their little brother //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

well 78nova is actually my username now since he posts about once a week and I post whenever I get a chance.

well neither is completely right ...... turning the gain up will make your amp put out more juice ...... more constant power *loosely called rms* .... but has no linear relation to the power though. and .... if you have it at 0 or 100% its not giving you 1500rms always either b/c your volume could be at 1 ..... therefore your not putting out 1500watts at volume 1

it just means that the amp wired to w/e stable resistance it can hold at its rated voltage it can produce that much power ...... minus efficiency loss *heat* .. *which increases as your turn the gain up 'usually past half way' and sends more of your alternator/battery juice to heat instead of power.
