My HU doesn't work all of a sudden

Most of my stuff got ripped off a while back and so I installed a new (used) HU that worked fine with the rear speakers I had still in the truck. I went to install some door speakers and now the HU won't work. It won't come on at all. If I hit the reset, you can hear it resetting. If I put in a CD it takes it like it's all good then nothing. It will eject it no problem it just won't come on. What the hell is that? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/pissed.gif.9f665f96bc89e98e708dabd4580bb591.gif

I take it you mean that the display wont come on and no music plays, right? If so, check your connections in the harness and make sure nothing came undone or anything. Also, check your grounds throughout...

What kinda car do you have and which HU?

Checked all connections, and ground everything looks good but I'll check again with a multimeter at the harness. It's a '91 chevy full size truck with an older kenwood deck. Might be that the deck is just old and out. You're right about the symptoms though.

was there a reason the person was selling the hu to you? this could have been a problem for the previous owner. trying contacting the seller and ask him if he had this problem. if the hu accepts a cd but the display doesn't turn on, that means the power connections are most likely fine and the internal components of the hu are having problems. if the hu accepts a cd and the display turns one, most likely you have a short with the wires of your front speakers. are you rear speakers working fine?

It is my old HU, so everything worked fine. When I put it in a few days ago there were no front speakers. I was in the process of putting them in when I realized that the HU wasn't working right. I don't normally use the vehicle so it was like a week ago that I had done all this. No one else has messed with it from then until now either so I need to do some more inspecting.

Did you check the radio fuse in the vehicle? Kind of sounds like your constant power wire is good but your switched power isn't working. If the fuse is good, check both power wires at the harness with a multimeter (using the harness ground). If one of the wires is dead, fix the problem or find another voltage source; if they both have power, then the head unit is likely at fault.
