Movies... New/Old?

I'm trying to start a collection of movies to store on my Media Server, and I haven't the slightest clue as to what any good movies are. I have several new releases, but would like some older ones too. What do you think are good movies, that are available on DVD/BluRay? Can't be on VHS, because backing up VHS tapes onto a hard drive gives me poor quality video, of course, VHS always gave poor quality video, compared to today's standards. I've got enough space on my drives to store about 500 DVD quality/size (normal single layer 4.7GB size) videos, and have about about 75 so far, excluding the Blu Ray disks. (I still have to get a Blu-Ray/DVD-Rom drive for my computer) so I can fit quite a bit more on my drive.
