Minidisc player/tuner NOT remembering saved stations

Hello,

I've just bought a car and it came with a Sony Minidisc player MDX-C7900. Everything works well except when I try getting my saved stations. I was told that it could be a wiring problem which is causing the loss of all saved memory once I turn off my car. I have no idea where to start looking. Help

Thanks

there should be a constant 12v wire, and an accesory/ignition 12v wire. The constant 12v wire will be used for applications such as memory etc, and the switched (ignition/accesory) will be used for main power. Check the wiring diagram for the unit and then check your wiring, most likely you switched them or something of that nature. Let us/me know when you figure it out. Good luck.

Thanks. I don't have the installation instructions, only managed to download the manual from Sony's site. I guess I'll have to remove the unit and see how it's plugged behind. Do you know where the power cables lead to?

Shouldnt matter where the wires end up. If its sony, pull the deck out. You'll see a set of wires coming from the back of the player, and then after about 8 inches of wire, should be where the 2 sets of wires (from the deck and from the car) meet. all these wires will be crimped together. On sony, Red = ignition switch and Yellow = battery memory. Make sure your battery mem is to the battery mem on the car. and vice versa. they're prolly just mixed up

Hello

I've checked the wiring. The Yellow and Red seem to be ok - I think.

I'm enclosing some pictures.

I'de say check the voltage on both the yellow and red wire in your cars "off" possition, then your accesory/ignition possition- just to make sure. Otherwise, it could just be a setting, maybe try contacting the company? Good luck...

Set the clock on the player, then turn off the car for a while. Turn it back on, if the clock resets, then you have a wiring memory problem. If it doesnt, its some 'feature' that you're missing or messing up on while programming it.

To check your wiring, you can either use a multimeter ( you can find an analog one at walmart for 10 bucks, or a nicer digital one for around 20 ) and check the 2 wires with the car on and off...Or simply take the 2 wires out of the crimps, and seperate them, then touch the yellow to yellow, should be a spark cuz its the constant battery...If there's not thats your problem. Try the same with the red. Just be careful, and make sure the ground is attached!
