Midbass!

Hi ya'll,

This is mainly for all the newbies interested in Sound quality applications. I want to emphasize how much the "midbass" section of your system makes a huge difference. A lot of SQ people when starting out don't think midbass is important. Big mistake. There are a lot of instruments that play in the midbass frequency range. When people install their SQ system they typically x-over the midrange frequency somewhere around 500-3k hz, and they x-over the bass from 25-100 hz. This leaves a huge gap in the midbass section. If you'll look into midbass and how it compliments a SQ application, I think you will be impressed with its contribution.

Feel free to leave any comments or questions.

I don't think I could have said it any better to be honest. Its just as important as the midrange itself is. By the way, nice choice of eq.

Thank you, I enjoy it tremendously.

I don't know if you've noticed but I have the same one. Do you know much about equalizers in general? Such as how digital eq's work vs how analog eq's work. In the General Discussion forum there is a thread called "digital eq vs analog eq" and I was wondering if you could read it and offer any knowledged to this because I'll be honest I don't know that much about the basics of a digital eq. thanx for any help you may be able to offer.

No reason why you can't cross your mid ranges lower especially if you have 6.5"s... just won't play as efficiently or what not... I currently have midbass and stock rears only in my car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif Need to finish my install sometime.

Midbass drivers help staging and give an added snap to subbass frequencies. In a two-way front stage system, a capable midbass should be crossed from 50 or 60hz upwards. Subwoofers playing at 100hz produce an audible 'muddiness' to their response and drag the stage backwards. I'd never go above 60hz.

I have been looking for a good mid bass driver. I have Diamond Audio Hex components. So if anyone wants to suggest me a mid bass driver please do so. What have you had experiance with, etc. (possibly one capable of a 2ohm load but doesn't have to be)

also diplexers: sell me your 2150!! or do you know anyone with a 2350?? I love the PPI PC amps (the black ones, not the crap ones) I have a stock pile of them and will always buy more of them when given the oppurtunity.

in my closet:

PC2100

PC450

PC250

PC250

I like my Digital Designs DDW6.5 midbass. They are either like $130 each or 130 a pair (i would hope a pair!) I paid $100 for a pair , used.

I am running them in my rear deck although sealed would work better.

They sound nice and give a good thump in the chest off only 65 watts //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I like midbass and know that it really helps staging and bringing out the fullness in music, but I think I could use more. Some people use components but do those really put out enough midbass? I currently have Type-S 6.5" coaxials and they are good but I could do better probably. Since the coaxials do pretty good in the doors and the tweeters do well on my dash, should I just put some pounding 6x9's in the rear (facing me from rear, it's in a hatchback coupe btw)? Would it sound good to have a lot of midbass coming from right behind you instead of in the doors or kickpanels as most people suggest? If so, can someone recommend a pair of 6x9's to me that have exceptional bass? Or, I could ditch the coaxials and just throw the midbass drivers in the doors but that'd be a cram. The dash tweeters would be the only high freq. things then however and I'm not sure that it would sound good. What should I do? Remember I'd like to keep it powered off stock deck (like 27Wx4 rms) Thanks.

Buahahaha! No way man! We both know about PPI and both know we can never ever sell what we have. Its funny that a 6 year old 4x50 watt PPI is still selling for 160.00.

I have seen the PC275 going for 150 on ebay. These amps still hold good value. They are built solid as a rock! These are the best amps I have owned. I just need to find a midbass to run off of a PC2100.

As soon as I get a new car I am going to be purchasing some Kicker RMB8's. 8" midbass drivers. Good midbass, and cheap on Ebay.

how do you guys think re 8's would work for midbass? i have a magnum so i probably wouldn't want to mix brands but just for future reference do you think a pair of re 8's would pick up where my components leave off?

good question, I would like to know that as well. The only thing I can think of is that RE8s are made as a sub for frequencies of 80 and less I would assume. I don't think they are made for the mid bass freq. I could be wrong. I sure would like it if they could do the job. But I just don't think that is it. Gotta look for something made for mid bass.

Okay,

I don't thing re 8 would work for midbass but how about a midbass driver?

I was looking on ebay and I found a pair of rmb8(kicker) midbass driver for less than 80$.

I currently have no crossover (using my hu crossover) if I get the midbass drivers should I get a crossover as well?

I currently have a

15"xxx, cl641, and a pair of 6x9.

what do you guys think?
