Memphis Power Reference Subs

I was wondering if I could get some specs on the Memphis subs. I have looked everywhere for info, done massive searching and I've come up with nothing. Memphis's website looks like it was done by some 14 yr old gamers lol, I could make one 5x better and I'm only 17. They don't have any specs except 2004 Subs and its on a brochure-esk PDF.

My friend has a 15" Memphis, today we took it out and I checked the magnet for any sign of what model and all it was, all it said was Power Reference, so that's all I know. Its probably a 2003 model because he just got it last year for 115$. It sounds really awesome and I'm impressed with their subs, but what I wanted to know was the RMS of the sub.

Its a single voice coil sub, and I'm aware that the 10" PR subs have an RMS of 200, the 12's have an RMS of 400 or so, and I'm guessing the 15 would be 600 right? Also, what is the impedance of his voice coil? He wants to upgrade from his "2400" watt Legacy, which I estimate is putting out about 500 watts RMS (or it could be less, depends on what impedance his sub is).

I was thinkin he could get a JBL 600.1 for that bad boy.

So what is the RMS and impedance of a 15" Memphis Power Reference Subwoofer?

Thanks

I bought 2 10" Power Reference subs about a year and a half ago, but havent installed them yet. It lists the 10", 12", and 15" subs as 200 watts RMS and 400 Peak for each one. Sensitivity or impedance is 87 for the 10", 88 for the 12" and 91 for the 15". They may be 2002 models because the dustcap is black. Then I got a 2003 Memphis brochure and the picture of the subs has a colored Memphis logo on the dustcap. The RMS is 250 for each sub and 450 Peak, so I dont think the RMS is that high for the 12" and 15".

He has the `03 model I believe because it has the colored dust cap. Its hard to believe that they rate their subs so low.. Any idea how much they can handle?

Also, if I'm not mistaken, impedance is the Ohm rating on the voice coil, that's what I wanted to know. I'm assuming that his 15" SVC sub is 4 ohm, but I just wanted to double check.

Thanks for the reply

Yes, youre right. I confused impedance with sensitivity. If its a SVC sub then its 4ohms and they also make a DVC 4 ohm sub with the same RMS and Peak power ratings. You would wire the voice coils in parallel to get a 2 Ohm load from the amp or wired in series would give you an 8 ohm load.

If hes running the 600.1 amp ( I assume its a JBL 600.1?), then the SVC sub would give him 300 watts which would be perfect for the power rating. A DVC sub wired in parallel would get 600 watts at 2 Ohms which might still be OK as lots of people on the boards say its OK to run more power to subs, just be careful with the gains on the amp. I dont think the manufacturer would recommend it though.

These are the lower line of Memphis subs hence the lower power ratings, but their Mojo and LVS subs both are rated at 800 watts RMS and 1200 Peak. Too high for me.
