Mb Quart Discus 2000.1D running hot?

Used to have a Hifonics 2000bxi and when I ran that full tilt it would only get luke warm. Now that I've upgraded to my mb quart 2000.1d, running it at even 3/4 tilt makes it get really toasty. To the point where it hurts to leave your hand on it for more than 4 seconds. Voltage never dips below 13.5v full tilt and I have it tuned on my DMM for 2000w (does 2200w i hear?) The amp is directly grounded to my rear batt and all the connections are snug and tight. The amp is also mounted right by my seat openings so it has pretty decent air flow. Anyone elses discus series amp run toasty like mine?

He said he set his gains with a dmm, so I doubt he's clipping the **** out of it. I have always found that mounting the amps on 2 strips of wood (leaving a gap between the amp and mounting surface) greatly reduces the amp heat. I have starting doing this with all my amps.

I have had amps get hot even when I scoped them. I would say if it is not going into protect or anything, fuck it. But yeah raising it up and letting air saturate the bottom of the amp also, may make a diff. If you are that worried, you could always add a fan....

Yeah it never goes into protect so I guess I'm not that worried. Just smells funny in my car when it gets hot with that generic hot electronics smell, hard to explain lol.

Check your ground. Had the same issue with a Discus 4125. I was pushing about 60 watts RMS X 4 channels and it was getting crazy hot. It finally blew up...
