Not sure where you got that info, ut having actually seen them with a leg span in excess of 8" would give me cuase to say that you were misinformed. They are not really spiders but a type of scorpion (10 not 8 legs). They don't chase people, they just want to stay in your shadow.Camel spiders have a leg-span of 5" but are not "as big as dinner plates" as rumoured.

azbass-whatever you have in AZ that you can sunspiders are different from these as these are only native to the Middle East.
