Knot Speed??

Sup guys. Me and my mom went to a walking place and we sat up on the two story visitors center and we seen the beautiful views of the land and ocean and all of a sudden we spotted a Tug Boat bringing barge in. So it was moving a little but me and my mom wondered how fast the tug boats usually go so I searched it up and it says it goes 6-8 knots top speed.. So I just wanted to know how fast is 9 knots in MPH

I forget the figures for how much more HP is needed to maintain the same speed on water vs. land - but it's a lot. 45 kts is very fast for any ship.

Tugs were not designed for speed. They are tow boats. No speed needed. They are not permitted to go faster then the ports speed limit anyways.

yeah they are.. It really makes sense. And the barge is so far away from the tug boat too. but man, poor tug boat drivers.. They must be bored as heck driving that boat at that speed..

Didn't the Japan create a Engine for cruise liners, oil tankers and commercial boats that's 1,000,000 horspower and literally feeds on 100 gallons of diesel per hour?

Nuclear ACC's can travel around 45kts/hr, and they weigh in at around 80-85,000 tons. I know the JFK which is a regular steam turbine ACC weighed in at 80,000 and when functioning properly it had a top speed of 45kts/hr.
