A friend of mine has two rfd2212's and they hit hard. I've never heard a 12w3 (or anything by JL) but I was just wondering how the two (rfd2212 and 12w3) compared.

JL=a good SQ sub, capable of decent SPL numbers.

RF=somewhat of an SPL sub, not the best SQ.

I would say JL is an all around better sub. But it can vary from person to person. But we can all agree that JL is definitely a mac daddy when it comes to SQ, and I intend to proove this (with a little install I did recently) at a local b/s comp this weekend. The guy I did the install for promised me half of anything he wins, so hell I'm in. People are already talking b/s about their ghetto installs, I'll just let mine talk for itself. Hoping maybe I'll get a few more install deals after my little showing. My brother is going also, with the 2 bazookas I gave him, he hit a 144.6 about two weeks ago. He had a sh!tty h/u, so I just went ahead and sold him mine, so now I'm totally out. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Deffinatly the JLs. The Rf are ok but the JL are alot better subwoofer and you would be alot happier with them both cost around the same on e-bay.

I disagree, JL subs are not old school, look at the W7. You put the W7 up vs. the hx2 hooked up to the exact same amp, and the W7 will prevail every time.

Originally posted by mr.cableboi I havent heard the jl w7's yet but from what i hear there not that good. I want to check them out for myself tho.
Just wait and listen for yourself. I have heard both and the W7, IMO, is a lot better.

IMO, i didnt like the sound JL made, untill the W7. dont get me wrong they are great subs and put out great power but audio is all about your own tast. The RF subs are a great quality and go loud, and last forever(my bro has 2 10" RF subs that are over 6 years old and they pound like new). The best thing is to go out and listen to both the RF and the JL and see what you like better.

As far as comparing your set up to his you have to keep in mind what other componets he has; Head Unit, E.Q/Xover, Amp, Power Wire size, box size/type, and how well it was installed. If all these were close/same i'd say the JL would have a cleaner sound and would go loud, but but the RF subs will pound hard and go loud too. Like I said above its all about your own tast.

Good luck, got a question post it.............

LOL you are compairing the W7 to just the regular HX2? Why?? I mean if you are going to put JL's best up there, why not put fosgate's best? I guarantee you that the Power HX2's will outhit the W7's. I am not really impressed with JL anymore. Thing is, I had 3 JL w6 8's in my truck in a ported box, and then I had to Fosgate HE 8's in a ported box, and the Fosgates hit MUCH harder LOL I mean, why pay so much for a JL when you can get something that really bumps from fosgate? I have compared the w6 10's with the he 10's also, the He's did better. JL just doesn't impress me

Well Rockford doesn't impress me!!!

I think both produce great subs. Thing is, unregistered must not know what he is doing if he got 2 HE 8's to hit harder than 3 JLW6's. More cone space=more air being moved. You can't really say that 2 HE's hit harder, unless you can for a fact, point out that you had exactly the same amount of power, space, etc. going to each seperate setup. Still the 3W6's would outperform 2 He 8's. Second of all, JL is more of an SQ sub, RF is on the Spl side of things, so how are you not impressed.
