Jl 12w7 & re 12 XXX, and still not happy

I have both, Im running either off of a PG tantrum 1200.1 birthed at 1485w @ 4ohm.....

So the JL12w7 is at 3ohm and so getting maybe 1550 w?

and heres the cool part the XXX is at 1ohm and the amp is completely stable, I have no idea how much juice is going into it at 1 ohm though, maybe 1700w?

Problem is....neither is loud enough or hits hard enough for me, The XXX has better SQ, but doesnt hit as low as the W7, The W7 hits lower but doesnt get as loud as the XXX, i have rewired everything with 2 to 4 awg, I have a 2.4 farad cap, grounded very well, even replaced my battery terminals and re-grounded my battery with 4 awg......I have an audio control 3xs 9v peak crossover/linedriver turned all the way up to 5v, my HU has 5v pre's.....

and yet to get this anywhere close to as loud as i want I have to turn my gain to 1/2 way and bass boost to 1/2 way on the PG.....

Any one have any ideas what the hell could be wrong?

Maybe nothing is wrong and I am just expecting too much from these subs/amps? Shouldnt this setup be able to hurt you if you turn it up too loud?

What are the box specs?

What enclosure are you using? If you are running sealed, go with ported.

The Tantrum doesn't increase power much at all when the impedance is dropped and I would guess that it is actually cutting power to the XXX at 1 ohm. Build a ported enclosure for the XXX and wire it to 4 ohm and give it a try. If you want it a bit louder tune it to about 35Hz rather than the recommended 28.

are these subs brand new. Cause if so it might take a little bit for them to losen up and move more freely. I know when i got my 2 15's i had volume turned all they way up and was like whoa this *****. They were about as loud as a 2 cent ***** of a speaker. So i waited about two weeks and there was a major differece. But i don't know if that is your prob or not. It just takes a little time for things to losen up and move optimumally.

i have a t1200.1 how long have you been running it at 1ohm and does it get hot.

You are probably overpowering the W7, but thats probably not the case. I am running a JL 1000/1 to mine and it slams. With that said, how good is your charging system? the 1000/1 has a regulated power supple so i'm pushing 1000 watts at a wide range of voltages. the PG will start dropping output immediatly when the amp is seeing less then 14.4V. I run my 1000/1 woth 1/0 AWG power cable, but my girlfriend runs 2 AWG to her 1000/1 and has no problem.

OK here we go, Im in a Acura RSX, so space is an issue but voltage is good so :

1) both are in sealed enclosures from Sub-zone customized to spec for the particular sub. Ported is too big for my car=(

2) subs are basically new, but broken in

3) Tantrum doesnt get that hot at 1ohm, can still touch it

4) digital read-out on CAP shows a nice 14+ charge whenever car is running

5) my tantrum shows its like 1675w @2ohm so I still think its ok at 1ohm as far as not dropping wattage,

6) Im not deaf....=)

Anybody in the Bay area who is a guru could check this out and give onsight advice? I agree with you guys, the stuff I have in this car is pretty much as good as it gets and should be very loud and very clean, so I know sumin gotta be wrong.....

Question why did u go from 2awg to 4awg?

If you travel to sacramento, I or my buddy Steve Meade could probably check ur system out, and possibly solve some problems. I think you would be better off with a custom built box. Also you might want to check wiht Marleyskater420 as he is in San Ramon.

i meant 2 awg from bat, split to 4awg going to amps..... sorry if i didnt expalin that right, yeah I may just have to consult with somebody with like a volt meter etc etc to figure out what the problem is......

i checked over at http://soundoff.phoenixgold.com/viewforum.php?f=9&sid= and termpro and they say not to run it at 1ohm, i was told the same from PG and the place i bot it from not to run it at 1ohm also, you might want to try running it at 4ohm so you don't smoke the amp.

but what ever if i works and seems to run fine then that cool, i'd just hate to see you smoke a nice amp.

yeah if im not getting the db's i want, i may as well rewire the sub to 4 ohm, no sense hutrting the amp for nothing....

maybe a hifonics 1500d would be better for the XXX?

Im almost at the point of tearing out all the wiring and starting from scratch.....

i think it's cause there in a sealed box. look around on the site i'm sure you can find a killa vented box for your XXX.

i've heard people who were very impressed w/ the xxx's output in a sealed box......i've always ran my 15xxx ported but i'm sure there should still be more than enough output sealed

maybe a h/u setting?
