Not always, but they're no more than $15. Don't be cheap!

It saves you from cutting into your stock plug. If you want to sell the car down the road, and want to keep your stock HU then all you would have to do is plug it back up. It saves about 1 hour in labor for the install, and much more if you return the stock HU. Save some time and do it with the harness.
