Is connecting a 1ohm speaker load on a 2ohm amp that bad?

As the topic says, is connecting one dual 2ohm sub (in parallel so 1ohm total) that bad for the amp if it gives it's max power output at 2ohms? I want to do this because the amp I'm gonna get is 600 watts @ 2ohm but only 300 watts @ 4ohm. Can I just turn down the gain? Let me know your thoughts thanks.

dont do it plz, u will frie both of them amp/speaker

if u got 2 1 ohm speakers connect them in series so u double the load 1ohm + 1 ohm = 2 ohm will work fine then

no point in that...sell the amp you have now and get a 1 ohm stable amp they can be had cheap these days with an azz load of power. 260 bucks for a hifonics brutus at your door with 1500 watts at 1 ohm

you will fry the amp most likely and if you don't it won't last long running like that

he better connect in series or buy another amp ???

and why is he powering a speaker with 1500w //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/waycrazy.gif.f4a380c3f94043939fd369defd9e6be2.gif if he is , then he should be giving the sub double that power or so, so that he can hear his/her subwoofer, as u know the highs are more easier to be heard than the lows.

look at the title up there , it says speaker, and not a SUBWOOFER //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smokin.gif.f1dc8d2acb1809e863ebd6a47eaa0d45.gif

A subwoofer is a speaker //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif And they are all tranducers //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif A subwoofer is a low frequency transducer..........

As for the 1ohm load on a 2ohm stable amp, not worth chancing it IMO. May work, may not. Depends on the in-box inpedence and the impedence characteristics of the sub. But better safe than sorry.

As suggested, with as cheap as power is these days, just find yourself a nice 1ohm stable amp.

SPEAKER= because it speaks Squeak //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
If that were the case, then technically most tweeters wouldn't be "speakers" because most of the vocal range is played by the midrange..........

speaker = creates sound by moving air //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif The speaker doesn't "speak", it moves back and forth in a pistonic fashion which creates sound waves //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

**looks at unplugged midrange sitting on the floor**

Speak boy, come on, speak, I know you can do it.......I'll scratch you behind the tinsel leads like I know you enjoy.....

looooooooooooooooooool @ squeak ,

what can i do the thread starter said speaker, then i thought he mean speakers, mid range speakers, ( i guess that runs to every body's brain first, befor thinking of a subwoofer ) or am i wrong //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Sorry for all the confusion, I did put speaker in the title but sub in the message body. Anyway back on topic, I'll just hook up the sub in series I guess for a final of 4ohm impedance.

One thing I've learned about these forums is that you can't take everything you read at face value.......you need to read between the lines and go with the option that makes a lot more sense. No one would be trying to hook up mids at 1ohm and over 600w //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

To the original poster, hooking it up in series is definitely the safest route till you get a new amp (if you plan on getting a new amp).

how would running 1ohm on a 2ohm stable amp blow the sub. i ask because i think i am guilty of this. i wired my HCCA(dual 2ohm) 1ohm to my amp way under its min independance. i didn't see how that would hurt the sub. . . i thought i just ran the chance of frying the amp. either way from experiance. don't do it. i got an expensive door stop!

Also Why in gods name would you BUMP a post from 2004?????

You just created a thread that says you are having issues with the amplifier going into protect mode if you run it hard at 1 ohm.

So yeah I would say you are having issues. That amplifier you have isn't made to run at 1 ohm it isn't stable. Get a 1 ohm stable amplifier.
