internal briding - mono amp

i have a two part question - 1) when a mono amp is internally bridged and it is hooked up to two subs how much power does it give to each sub? For example, if the amp data/stats says that at 4 ohms itll give 400 watts and you have to subs hooked up will it give each 400 watts or will it give each 200 watts

2) how do you know when an amp is internally bridged? Are Hifonics and Audiobahn amps internally bridged?

usu it says in the manual. or when you get a mono amp and you have 4 spk outputs that is a signed of being internally bridged.

power it depends, if it says 400rms @4ohms, and let's say 600@2ohms, and assuming you have two subs that are SVC 4ohms, then when you wire them to the amp, they get wired in parallel (that's how it is wired inside) so impedance drops to 2ohms, therefore you sending 600 to both, 300 to each.

the more subs you put the lower the impedance usually.

The extra speaker outs are for convenience to the user, they aren't a sign of the amp being internally bridged (which mono amps are). Don't worry so much about it being internally bridged. If the company says it's a mono amp, you can safely assume it's going to be. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

If it's a monoblock, and you have two 4 ohm subs hooked up to it, you can get a 2 ohm load, or an 8 ohm load.. so look at the stats of the amp again. How much will it put out at 2 ohms? Whatever that number is, divide it by two, since you have two subs.

the guy at best buy said that to power my two jl audio w6's which need like 400 watts each i cud buy a mono amp that puts out 400 watts x 1 @ 4 ohms and 800 watts x 1 @ 2 ohms and it would give each sub 400 watts of power. Is that true?

If your Jl's present a 2 ohm load to the amp then yes each subwoofer will get 400 watts. If they are a 4ohm load to the amp then your gonna get 200 watts to each sub. Divide the amplifier wattage by the number of subs to get power to each sub. 800 watts/2 subs is 400 watts to each sub.
