I am installing my audio system. Should I use my zero gauge wire off the main alternator or off my cars front battery? I was thinking just running it off the alternator.

Run it off the battery since it is the one that holds the amperage. Fuse within 18" of the post.

I'd run the 0-gauge power wire from the front battery positive terminal, not directly off the alternator.

The battery is your main power source/storage point, while the alternator keeps the battery charged and supplies current while the engine is running. Run your 0-gauge from the battery to your amp(s), and put the proper fuse as close to the battery as possible.

I'd also make sure your grounds are upgraded to match the power wire—especially battery-to-chassis, engine-to-chassis, and your amplifier ground.

You can incorporate the alternator into a properly designed high-output electrical system, but for a normal car-audio installation, battery → fuse → 0-gauge power wire → amp is the way I'd go.
