Instalation Question for 98 eclipse

Today i tried to hook up my sony explode head unit in my 98 eclipse gs and ran into some trouble....i got the wiring harness that is nessesary from circut city, and i grounded the grounf wire....everything seemed to hook up correctly, except for a thick black cord....not the power cord, that was hooked up....another thick black cord...im wondering if i need another adapter to be able to plug that into the sony head unit....otherwise what am i doing wrong????
