IDmax 12 or Infinity VQ

I want a system that is very balanced and has very good sq. I've purchased everything except the sub woofers. I want to run two subs but I can't decide between IDmax 12 and Infinity VQ 12.

This is what I have so far:

--PG ti800.1 - 950wrms birth cert at 2 ohm

--two Infinity VQ 12 OR two IDmax 12

*** Highs/Mids ***

--PG ti500.4 - 600wrms at 4 ohm

-Speakers

--infinity perfect 6.1 component system

100wrms 4 ohm 6.5 inch speakers + tweeters

--infinity kappa 5x7

100wrms 4 ohm speakers w/ tweeters

I'm not sure about the subs at all. The box is going to have two sealed chambers with a center compartment (open top) for the amps/eq. the chambers for the sub woofers are going to be about 1.079 cubic ft each. Each sub woofer is going to get about 475wrms @ 2 ohm. I'm looking for a very balanced system that can preform well at low to high volumes. I'm not looking to win any SPL comps. I also need very quick, low sub woofers.

I listen to a wide varity of music genres so I need speakers that will preform well with all genres of music. This is just a few of the genres/bands I listen to:

Techno - Trance, happy hardcore, jungle

Punk - Flogging molly, Vandals

Ska - Aquabats, Reel big fish

Rock - Vendetta red, Red hot chilli peppers

Rap - NWA, dr dre, eminem

DCI - Vanguard (I marched cadet corps last year), BD... all of them

Those two subs are in totaly differnent catagories. Id take the IDMAX over the infinity. IDMAX in a small sealed box will be loud and will do what you want perfectly.

The IDMAX and the Infinity are not even in the same class... so of course the IDMAX.

Definitly the MAX but the box you will be using is too small, it will be less than 1 cube after the woofer displacement. If you can try to squezze 1.38 per chamber. That will give you right around 1.25 per chamber after the displacement, which is much more ideal for the MAX.

the most I can do is 1.16 for each chamber but that's absolute max. I have a ranger extended cab and I'm going with a wedge with the amps in a middle chamber. In order to be able to lean back in my seat as much as I want I haveto limit the box size a lot... 1-1.16 is the max. I just figured out a way to squeeze in about .15 sqft in.. other than that there is nothing I can do. Thanks for your help though.

Since your looking for a rather balanced system you would be able to compromise the IDMAX for the IDQ12 which works great anywhere from .75-1 cuft, and with 450ish watts it will make those woofers glow. On top of that you will save about 300 bucks.

Actually, I never really thought about the IDQ's because their RMS is a lot lower than the rms of my amp. Would they sound good as the IDmax? Would I haveto use 1 inch mdf with the IDmax? I might be able to get an extra .0something from the thinner wood.

Yes the power of your amp is beyond the RMS of the IDQ but as long as you are careful with the tuning of your amp then you will be fine. Yes they sound as good as the IDmax but the MAX will get louder. And no you don't have to use1" MDF you application isn't high power enough to need it.

if you get 2 subs get the IDQ's and port them. They only need like 1.6 cubes each ported net

and tune them around 32hz. And 900w would be PERFECT for them. Thats the same power I ran to my 2 12's and that system was by far the most musical and balanced system I ever had. I prefer the IDQ's for raw SQ anyway. ANd they will get PLENTY loud like that. I think most people that have used the idq's sealed and ported will tell you there is no group delay problems with them, and they seriously do sound better ported than sealed. Those subs are just nuts for SQ and get pretty loud ported. If they got ALOT louder I'd use them still.

Alright thanks... I just did some calcs and with 1inch mdf I'll be able to have 1.23 sqft for each chamber. with 3/4ths I'd probably get 1.24ish. I don't plan on touching this system (aside from a new deck in a couple years) ever again. I'm kind of afraid of running speakers over their rms so I think I'm going to go with the IDmax. It is a lot more expensive but I'd rather spend a little more so I won't haveto worry about replacing the speakers. Also, I might be able to get 1200wrms out of my amp with dynamic power. I think I might play with that a little. Thanks for your help.

He only has 1.16 net otherwise the IDMAX's would have been the way to go. With that much space you maybe able to get away with using a pair of IDMAX 10's if you have thought about that at all.

That will put you right at the ID minimum for the MAX of 1.1cuft per chamber. Good luck with everything. You picked my favorite woofer in the industry and I hope you are nothing but pleased with it, it's a phenominal woofer. Like I said before though have you thought of 10's at all?

I agree totally, but lots of people look to ID when they don't have much space. ID also sounds real good in bigger sealed boxes, in fact I love the MAX 12 in about 1.65 net sealed.
