I took my 12" xxx to a local shop and....

He was impressed at it he said some good and some bad things:

Good:

It has good cushioning for the leads going into the voicecoils

The leads are thick.

Overall well built

Bad:

It is overbuilt supposedly.

The cooling system that an xxx uses is not good enough.... he said that the only way it cools down is through that small hole in the middle of the magnet and that it would overheat around 1000 watts. Hence he says it would blow quickly.... he said go ahead and install it because he likes to smell smoke..... :-(

Well I have never heard of an xxx overheating but maybe ppl just don't say that this happened to them... what do you think?

ive seen my fair share of xxx's with over 2000 watts going to each without a problem. only way theyll smoke is if you add kerosene, or wire some **** wrong. so dont let him install it, because i hate haters

I will never let him install it.. why let somebody do it for so much money when u can have the satisfaction of doing it yourself, right. I want to make a box for it that will impress him I will be sending it 1200 watts of power. I want to make it ported but i will have to make the port with pvc pipe because it seems easier than making it slot ported.. PVC won't make a negative impact will it?

well with pvc it going to take more to avoid port noise. The XXX's likes port area so you may have to use more ports. Other then that there shouldn't be a negative effect.

should i just use the box on the RE website 2.5 ft^3 tuned to 35 hz? i want to lean toward spl more than sq... will 35 hz make that happen?

it should.....i'd go bigger....like 3-3.5

i took my old HC to some local shops to see if they had meters, none of them did.. and they were all suprised that something without "kicker" or "rockford" on it would be so loud. I got satisfaction out of knowing i got a sub that was as good as what they offered, and way cheaper then what they were gonna pay me.

Honestly shops are dumb. I went to a local shop and when I told him how much I paid for my HC's he said it was a LOT of money.

I paid 650 canadian new after shipping, duties etc. He sells 2 JL 15 W0's for 599+ 15% sales tax = 690.

Who paid a lot for their 15's??????

oh and get this lol when i took the XXX to the shop it was already wired to 1 ohm with the series combined parallel wiring from the respl website for the quad voice coil sub and the guy was like what the f!@$ he said what is this... this is wired wrong... blah blah blah.. he got his meter and read it and it read 1 ohm and he was like something is wrong

he said it is out of phase one voice coil will want to do one thing and another will want to do another.. he didn't even want to beleive his meter. LOL

oh and yesterday i hooked up my XXX to my amp free air... its not supposed to sound good or loud in free air right? i hope not because it didn't i just wanted to see it move a little
