i think i reached the limit of my ears

I sit in a car that does 158db.
A friend of mine is running 2 18" RE MT's with 4 BD 1500s, giving it almost a total of 20kw(for burps, they are modded, and he has the electrical for it. 2 300amp alts, big 3, yellow top, with 2 40farad carbon caps, and more batts soon). Daily its at about 7-8kw not sure. He's hit 151.5 on the dash, 153.4 in kicks, on the sensor. Last year's mics its a 158, 159 on dash, 160ish in kicks. That **** is fu(king loud but i seriously can take, and some times it feels good, but thats a very select few times lol. Try having your head in the port for super port wars and the pressure hitting your throat, hurts like a mofo.

He has 15cubes @ 33hz.

ITs fu(king loud, but feels good.

I believe he's upgrading to 4 more bd 1500s

And im not stupid or insane lol... i just love spl.
enjoy hearing things while u can thats all i have to say.

Driving with earplugs is not smart...how about you just not turn it up while driving??? If you drive with it up to the point of needing ear plugs something is wrong.
well put. and even if u think about it from a medical standpoint, sound pressure is not stopped by earplugs. SOUND is, but not the pressure. you will still not fare too well.

yeah earplugs do you dumba$$. it doesnt allow your eardrums to have the change in pressure becuase they are blocked from the sound waves. WOW u are not smart //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

do earplugs keep your ears from popping on airplanes? (i dont know)...that would end this discussion.

I'll assume they block the pressure by sealing the ear off. I'm sure after a while the pressure would equalize, but it would take a while. Now with the quick changes in pressure in the car environment...does that make them more effective or less effective than using them on airplanes?

I do.. all the time... blow me Mark //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/moon.gif.9d317aec3339ffe7fde0638df52c628a.gif

I had, have, and will have a louder system then 95% of this group..

and gasp.. still have perfect hearing..

but but but... its not possible.. Im gonna be deaf...

funny how 25 db of attenuation prevents that.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

but as always.. I know nothing...

Different pressures we're talking about, nice try though. As the ambient air pressure decreases when the plane climbs, the air that is in the estachian tube (the canal that connects the ear canal and the sinus cavity) expands from the reduced pressure. That air expanding and escaping is what causes your ears to pop. If that air can't escape, you will rupture a sinus or an eardrum. Never fly with a head-cold.

Earplugs work not by sealing off the ear, but by attenuating the pressure waves coming from the outside. The foam type work the best. The rubber that the plugs are made of causes only a portion of the wave to be transfered through to your ear canal and then on to your eardrum. Different types of earplugs work better at different frequencies. As the sensitivity of the ear is different at different frequencies as well, you can't really say that 158 dB is painful unless you know the frequency involved and whether the SPL reading is weighted to account for the differing frequency dependant sensitivity. For example, the frequencies produced by a jet engine vary greatly. At a distance it may be pretty loud still but the lower frequencies are all that you hear and you can handle higher absolute pressures at lower frequencies and therefore it is not painful, just loud. Get closer to the engine, especially the intake side of the engine, and the pitch of the engine changes and it will quickly become painful and just as quickly start to cause irrevesible damage to the ear. This is from the shift in frequency, not from the change in intensity.

the majority of people who listen to my system say that it's hurting their ears and beg me to turn it down.

i don't understand this.why they don't complain when they are in a club and the music is so loud and many times distorted and can't even hear when someone is shouting in their ear?

after 1 night in any club i have really problem.my ears are ringing all day the next day.

i never found my ears in this situation after a long trip of loud music in my car.

so,i don't think it's only the spl that hurts ears but distortion and PAY ATTENTION TO THIS,frequency response of a system!for example a balanced sytem hurts much less than a system that has the same volume at highs as the balanced but lower volume at lows.

do you agree?

Earplugs are nice when you arent driving...but when your cruisin with them on and the system blastin how are you supposed to hear anything else?

but as always.. I know nothing...

last time I checked.. hearing test wasn't part of the criteria for a license...

what about deaf drivers? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
