Urgh, im so pissed off right now. I have been saving to buy me a new alternator from Iraggi. Its going to cost 350. Well, i WAS about 100 dollars away from getting it, and since i just graduated about 2 weeks ago, my mom CAME to me and said dont worry about buying your alternator. Me and your dad is going to get it for you as a graduation gift. She told me to go ahead and spend the money i have and just keep enough of it to pay someone to install the alternator. So im like cool. Well, I have a sound off competition coming up June 18. Its going to take a week to build the alternator. My dad is giving me the run around and basically is coming up with every single reason in the book for me not to have my alternator. And its not like i asked them, they came to me. Now that i have spent my money, i cant even buy it myself. He started off by saying, he doesnt want my music to be sooooo loud that i cant hear an ambulance coming. Well, i barely even bump like that and i really want it for my competition. Then he started saying something about insurance wont cover my car if i "modified" it. and something about an High Output alternator can cause a fire. And if the fire burns up my car, it wont be cover because i modified it. Now thats B.S. because thats just like saying, i replace my battery in my car because it was dead, and my new battery caused problems. It wont be covered. Or my engine went bad so i replaced it and something happened to my car, so insurance wont cover it. Then he came at me and was like, why do you think they have different alternators for different cars. Im like, why do you think my alternator is going to cost much more than a regular alternator. Because its going to be custom BUILT FOR MY CAR. then he was like, well they might just be telling you a whole bunch of B.S. to sell that alternator to you. Im like, u didnt raise a fool. Thats why im a member of these caraudio websites. Thats why im constantly asking questions and reading posts. Almost everybody who Dom Iraggi has built an alternator for has loved it and has had any problems from having an High Output alternator. Bottom line, my dad is old fashioned. He doesnt like the loud stereo systems and he doesnt like mine. He basically wish i didnt have it, and dont want to help me make it any louder or what ever. It just pisses me off that i almost had the money for it, but they came to me saying how they will buy it as a gift. But now he is giving me the run around. So basically, i just would like any input on how i can convince my dad. I keep tellin him that having an 1800 watt amp on a factory alternator will cause it to go bad. So he is like, why dont you just keep your music down. Im like what da crap, i compete. How many people you know compete with the volume on 5. Anyways, what all problems, if any, can come about with having an High Output alternator. Will it damage my car any? Should insurance cover anything on my car that goes wrong if i have full coverage. and just any other things you all my know about H.O. Alternators so i can take some facts back to him. So hopefully i can have it in my car by June 18. Thanks in advanced

Dude, I'm glad I don't have parents like yours. My mother doesn't care what I do to my car. As far as I know the only adverse effect of a H.O. Alternator is reduced HP. I have never heard of them increasing the chance of causing a fire or stuff like that. I would assume your stock alt has about a similar chance. As far as your insurance goes, you can get an umbrella policy added onto your car insurance to cover all your stereo equipment, that is what I did. They might even cover it under the policy as long as you tell them you have it. Half the battle with insurance is letting them know what you need covered and you agent should be more than happy to help you out. Hopefully you can convince your dad that we don't live in the "Leave it to Beaver" era anymore.

Man, he just now started tripping about what i add to my car. Bottom line, he doesnt like bass and loud music. Im like, tough luck but this is my car. And he is afraid im going to cause a wreck or something. And trying to convince he to leave the beaver age isnt going to work at all. My mom has been doing it since she was 19. She is 40+ now
