I Get TO REPAINT MY CAR!

Well, to tell the truth I got mine painted by a good friend who does paint n body for a living.

He charged me materials cost (I had to buy the tape, the paint, the clear, the primer, etc etc etc) plus $100 for his labor.

He had an unexpected lull in business and wanted to keep busy and I needed like 7 zillion small dents pulled (hail damage ALL over the car) and then to have the car resprayed so he hooked me up.

Without being asked to he also painted the side moldings on the doors and my grill the same color as the rest of the car instead of the cheap-looking black it was from the factory.

Yes, it was a great deal on a trul quality paintjob. I can't complain a bit.

I'm always weary of Maaco because all I see is their cheapest jobs. That and plus I'd never imagine a quality full paint job being a grand. Whatever though, give it a shot. Most people can never tell the difference, I just tend to have an eye for things in paintwork/body work.
of the custom shops i've worked in, don't expect to pay less than 1k for a truly nice paintjob....unless you were saying you can't imagine paying that LITTLE for a quality paintjob. One shop I worked in, 1k was pretty much the minimum you could pay, and that was just spraying matte black, no clear and no finishing(wetsanding and such)

but to the OP, even though maaco = trash, since it's a gift certificate you can't really do anything about it. I would suggest keeping it low profile. Paint the outside of the car, the same color as the accents on the interior, so it all goes together, but your entire car isn't the same color inside and out.

i wouldn't change the exterior color if you're not going to redo the interior, but that's just me. there's a thousand ways to skin a cat.

well come to find out, the owner of the shop will be doing the paint job since my parents got the certificate at a school auction for charity, gaudiosa, it a jesuit high school thing, ne ways, i expect it to be good because he knows if he f's up everyone will see at school guess they all knew my parents won that auction. So pressure on him, not only that he also graduated form the same jesuit school and wouldn't want a bad rep. Yay for me

If I end up repainting my car, I'm going with this. It's been my favorite color for years.

well while my dad was getting his maxima's yearly tune, i noticed a color in corner of my eye, i went to the sticker tag and its called dark slate, it a medium - dark grey with a titanium / bluish tint to it, it was **** sexy, I went to the sales rep got the color code and then went to maaco.

The owner was extremely nice since he was a grad of a jesuit and will be doing my paint job. He will sand, remove any body damages like small dents, rust if any, then paint 2 coats of dark slate, then two coats of clear. He also will be sanding, priming, painting my windshield brackets since the factory paint came off, repainting my center caps on my wheels since they are peeling, and sanding, and painting my my doors, trunk, and hood. He also got in touch with a dealer to get a new right mirror since mine had a small crack in the bottum of it wear it attaches for a lot cheaper.

I had the up to the 1000 dollar gift certificate and he is only charging me for an extra 100 dollars for the light and different colors for the wheel center caps and windshield bracket. Im pretty happy too because of the 2nd coat of clear he is throwing in for free. He definately took care of one of his own schoolmate's and is diffenately a nice alumni.

Pics of the care before and after don't worry

Mike-

just get a respray of what you have now, or some other simple color.

Yep. Remember that it's going to cost you a lot more than that $1K if you want them to do the door jambs, trunk, firewall etc. All of those are going to need to be done if your going to change the color...if you leave them the same they will be nasty with over spray and look like ***. Just shoot it what you have now. There is a reason that they completly strip those cars down that you see them do on Rides, American Hot Rod and OverHaulin'.

Regardless, since your going to macco do as much of the disassembly as you can yourself. They don't take crap apart...they just mask and it shows. Pull all the trim, grill, locks, latches, lights etc. yourself.

There is a reason that quality paint jobs cost $$$. $1K isn't much and it isn't going to get you much. The more work you do before taking it to them the better the end result will be.

The trunk, door jams and doors, and hood are included in the gift certificate, the wheels, and windshield wiper backets are not along witht he mirror he bought for my car.

I hope when he says sanding he means sanding the whole car down and removing paint? is that what he means?

it's Maaco. They're probably not even going to remove the paint, they'll just scuff it so the new paint won't flake off. And on the Maaco paint jobs i've seen, they didn't even do a good job with that lol
